Nassau County will delay collection of around $3 million in annual licensing fees from around 10,000 contractors to ease pressure on builders during the coronavirus pandemic, according to Newsday.
Contractors pay $650 each to renew their licenses every other year. County Executive Laura Curran didn’t say when Nassau would begin collecting fees.
County Republican leaders wants the fees collected no sooner than 30 days after the state lifts its ban on nonessential construction. Construction was at first exempted from the ban, but Gov. Andrew Cuomo eventually barred non-emergency work that wasn’t related to infrastructure, healthcare facilities and affordable housing. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
