Surge in South Fork construction work expected to slow down

Construction work around the South Fork should be slowing down as contractors wrap up jobs they were allowed to finish under state regulations adopted to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus, according to the Southampton Press.

Officials in South Fork communities said they’ve struggled to enforce the state’s rules. Some contractors simply ignored the rules.

Private contractors are allowed only one worker at job sites, but they’re also allowed to bring in larger crews to quickly wrap up work like finishing roofs or completing foundations.

“We should be hitting a point now where these construction projects can stop,” said Southampton code enforcement official Ryan Murphy. [Southampton Press] — Dennis Lynch
