Hamptons residents weren’t quiet about their concerns that New Yorkers who fled to their towns as coronavirus took hold in the city posed a threat to their communities. Now it seems tensions have settled, according to the Wall Street Journal. Grocery stores brought in staff to accommodate the surge in customers, while Stony Brook Southampton Hospital added workers and beds. Hospital officials say they’re handling demand well. Some towns also increased trash services to deal with the surge in need that usually didn’t hit until the summer. While there is some anecdotal evidence that city-dwellers have brought the virus with them to some rural communities, East Hampton and Southampton have the lowest rate of confirmed cases in Suffolk County.
