East Hampton’s first affordable condo project could soon be cleared for occupancy, following months of delays related to mysterious elevated gas levels detected in some basements, according to the East Hampton Star.
Volatile organic compounds were found in some basements — likely produced by the release of gas from insulation or paint — last fall and earlier this year. Environmental cleanup teams have been working on the issue since and last week reported to the town the lowest level of gasses detected so far.
The town, banks, and other parties will have to sign off on the report to allow residents to move in. [East Hampton Star] — Dennis Lynch
