East Hampton Town trustees approved a proposal from the developers behind the South Fork Wind Farm to run a 138,000-volt power cable to East Hampton via Wainscott Beach, according to Newsday.

The 7-0 vote moves the contested offshore wind farm project closer to reality. The proposal includes a $29 million community benefits package from the developers, led by Orsted U.S. Offshore Wind. The town board could vote on the proposal in the next few weeks.
