Life Time Fitness has dropped plans to open a large fitness center at a former Target department store site in Commack, according to Newsday.
The Minnesota-based fitness company did not give a reason for the decision, but the owner of the property blamed the coronavirus pandemic. Because of Covid-19 and severe limitations on fitness center occupancy, “they weren’t going to invest the funds in this facility to outfit the building for their use and not be able to use it,” said JP Venture vice president John Baker.
The now-scrapped $35 million gym would have spanned 144,000 square feet with pools, a restaurant, areas for children to play, and traditional gym space. The Target store closed there last year. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
