Amazon is continuing its Long Island expansion with plans to convert two buildings in Melville into a 300,000-square-foot “last-mile” fulfillment center.
The e-commerce giant needs approval from the town of Huntington for its planned changes to the properties at 1770 Walt Whitman Road and 540 Broad Hollow Road, according to Newsday. Both had been once used by Rubie Costume Company.
The distribution center would be the largest of Amazon’s eight planned Long Island facilities. Last year, it opened a distribution center in Carle Place. It also has received some pushback for a planned distribution center at Westhampton’s Francis S. Gabreski Airport.
The ecommerce behemoth has been in expansion mode nationwide. [Newsday] — Dennis Lynch
