Suzy Welch lists Hudson Valley estate for $25M

Suzy Welch is once again headed to the market with a luxury listing, this time in the Hudson Valley.

Welch is listing her home at 124 Eden Knoll in Dutchess County’s Red Hook for $25 million, Bloomberg reported. The listing is the second-most expensive in the Hudson Valley right now and one of the priciest in the region’s history.

The estate, known as Steen Valetje, dates back to the mid-19th century, though Welch embarked on a restoration of its 290 acres when she purchased it at the start of the pandemic. Welch is trying to make some profit two years after reportedly paying $16.5 million.

The property includes a 16,600-square-foot home with 10 bedrooms, nine bathrooms and three half baths. Welch’s updates to the property included bringing the Internet and HVAC systems up to date, as well as outfitting automated systems throughout the house.

Guests of the property’s buyer will have no shortage of places to stay. There are two four-bedroom guest houses and a carriage house with four bedrooms. There’s also a two-bedroom gate house.

Other features of the estate include many gardens, a tennis court, an eight-stall horse stable, indoor and outdoor riding rings for horses and a pool with a fully-equipped pool house. There are also permissions in place for up to three docks and a mooring along the Hudson River.

The estate was gifted from William Astor Sr. to his daughter, Laura, who would ultimately go on to marry Franklin Delano, uncle to President Franklin Roosevelt. The property remained in the family until 1966.

As for why Welch is ready to move, she told Bloomberg that she is spending a majority of her time in the city. She is set to soon join NYU as a teacher.

Last year, Welch listed her co-op at 834 Fifth Avenue in New York City for the same $25 million price. The seventh-floor duplex spans about 9,000 square feet and has more than 90 feet of Central Park frontage.

A month prior, Welch bought a mansion at 160 East 81st Street for about $22.7 million.

Welch works as an author, journalist and television commentator. She was married to the late General Electric boss Jack Welch, who died in March 2020.
