After 15 years, Shelter Island’s residential market has a new record holder.

The seller of the Snyder House at 2 Charlie’s Lane in the Long Island hamlet sold the single-family home for $13 million, Behind the Hedges reported. The previous record belonged to the sellers of 1 Shorewood Court, who sold their property in 2008 for $12.4 million.

The Snyder House, named for the chief executive officer of the Pressed Steel Car Company and the original owner of the property, spent about a year on the market. The owners listed it last fall for $14 million.

Designed by Bertrand Goldberg, the 6,000-square-foot house was rebuilt to the original footprint by the previous owners. The home is situated on three-and-a-half acres, containing a large living room with views of West Neck Harbor and the original two-sided stone fireplace.

The property also has a 74-foot-long saltwater pool in the courtyard and a 235-foot deepwater dock into the harbor with access to the Long Island Sound.

In terms of the main house, the sale breaks down to roughly $2,158 per square foot. Sotheby’s International Realty’s Nick Brown held the listing, while the Corcoran Group’s Gary DePersia procured the buyer.

“Between the uniqueness of the house, the size and location of the property, and the dock, it satisfied all their needs,” DePersia told Behind the Hedges in regards to the buyer.

An estate in Shelter Island listed in February for $13.3 million was positioned to overtake the Snyder House record. But after it was removed and put on the market once again, the home at 8 & 10 Cobbetts Lane was pulled again in May and hasn’t returned, according to Zillow.

The only Shelter Island listing pricier than the new record sale is the home at 1 Pandion Road, which is being marketed for $13.9 million. It’s been available for five months, according to Zillow.
