David Craig

David Craig has been among the most prominent forces at play in the development of the DFW metroplex to the north. The Craig International founder’s resume covers more than 15,000 acres, ranging from TPC Craig Ranch golf club, host of the PGA-sanctioned CJ Cup Bryon Nelson, to Craig Ranch, the first master-planned community in Collins County.

He developed Craig Ranch in McKinney with his father, Jim Craig, in the 1990s, putting 6,000 single-family and multifamily units on 2,000 acres. Now he’s pushing farther north with the $6 billion Preston Harbor community on Lake Texoma, a massive reservoir that straddles that Oklahoma-Texas border. The late George Schuler of Schuler Development Project had been working on the project in partnership with Craig International from the early aughts to his death in 2023, when he left Craig to finish up. The 3,000-acre project is expected to include single-family homes, apartments, retail, restaurants and a marina, with almost 10 miles of lake shoreline and a Margaritaville resort hotel. The Jimmy Buffett-inspired hospitality play is no guarantee – a Times Square edition of the brand went bust under Sharif El-Gamal’s Soho Properties in 2023 – but Craig looks good for the ride on Preston Harbor in general. He’s collaborating on the project with friends and fellow Dallas developer heavyweights Rex Glendenning and Mehrdad Moayedi (see related entries). Moayedi bought acreage to develop at Preston Harbor; Glendenning brokered the sale.
