Jeff Bezos

Founder, Amazon

Bezos, the founder of Amazon and one of the richest people globally with a net worth of roughly $230 billion, is a residential market maker all on his own. Specifically, he’s become the most aggressive residential buyer in Indian Creek Village, Miami’s ultra-exclusive “Billionaire Bunker” enclave. He’s spent at least $234 million on properties there.

It started in 2023, at the height of the influx of well-heeled out-of-staters to South Florida fueled by the state’s business friendly climate and lack of income tax, when Bezos bought a 9,300-square-foot, three-bedroom teardown at 11 Indian Creek Island Road for $68 million, plus the adjacent 19,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom mansion at 12 Indian Creek Island Road for $79 million. The transactions combined to give him 4.6 acres of contiguous waterfront land where he plans to build an estate.

But where will he live in the meantime? In 2024, Bezos bought a move-in ready home at 28 Indian Creek Island Road, a 10,000-square-foot, seven-bedroom mansion, for $87 million.

During their shopping spree, Bezos and his then-fiancée, now-wife, former news anchor and pilot Lauren Sánchez Bezos, announced they were moving from Seattle to Miami –– a shift that came just as Washington state imposed a capital gains tax. Bezos had said he’s moving to be closer to his parents.

Entities tied to the Bezos Family Foundation, as well as Bezos’ late mother, Jackie, and his stepfather, Mike, purchased two adjacent waterfront Coral Gables mansions for $78 million, combined, in 2022.
