If there’s anyone entitled to putting up a “locals only” sign outside the office door, John Stanaland could certainly lay claim. The founder of the John Stanaland Group at The Agency holds deep roots in Laguna Beach, with his family tracing its history there all the way back to 1919 with Stanaland’s great-great-grandfather. That’s over 100 years for the family in real estate across sales, development, legal and financial. 

Stanaland’s keeping the family in the real estate business as he leads a six-person team that includes his son Tyler Stanaland, in addition to the group’s partner Logan Montgomery. That’s amid a shifting landscape for coastal OC’s residential market as new entrants, such as The Altman Brothers Team, look to nab a piece of the business. 

Stanaland brought his group to Elliman in 2023 from Villa Real Estate and then made the jump to The Agency in the new year. With over $4.8 billion in career sales, his biggest trade last year was 433 Harbor Island Drive in Newport Beach. The deal marked the priciest sale ever on the street when it sold in August for $17 million, or $2,591 per square foot. The Cypress Compound at 32181 Coast Highway in Laguna Beach is his largest current listing, with an asking price of $50 million, or $8,598 per square foot. The residence sits on a bluff above the Thousand Steps Beach and is positioned near the Montage, Ritz Carlton and St. Regis.
