Moishe Mana
Mana made his fortune with a moving business in New York called Moishe’s Moving Systems, but is best known in real estate for his South Florida land banking.
The Israeli-born billionaire has concentrated his holdings in downtown Miami’s Flagler District, Wynwood and Allapattah. He recently surpassed the Rok family (see related entry) as the biggest landlord in downtown, a distinction achieved while taking criticism for not acting on his plans to develop his downtown Miami and Wynwood assemblages.
He controls so much land downtown that critics say he is holding up the area’s success. Mana has spent more than half a billion dollars for real estate that spans roughly 1.5 million square feet.
In Wynwood, Mana operates the Mana Wynwood Convention Center, a 30-acre property at 318 Northwest 23rd Street. Mana was rumored to be selling the convention center site to billionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin for roughly $700 million, but he and Griffin denied the deal is underway. Beyond real estate, he owns a document management company, as well as Mana Agro farms in Colombia and the McArthur Dairy in South Florida, among other ventures.
