Property Markets Group founder Kevin Maloney took Shear under his wing in 2006 and watched him work up the ranks at PMG. He’s now managing partner alongside Maloney and Dan Kaplan. 

Shear has overseen a number of completed condo projects, including Echo Aventura and Echo Brickell, Muse Residences in Sunny Isles Beach and the Elser Hotel and Residences in downtown Miami. With other partners, Shear and PMG are also developing major towers that are under construction, including the sold out E11even Hotel & Residences and E11even Residences Beyond, as well as the Waldorf Astoria Residences. The latter is expected to be the tallest residential structure south of New York City once completed. Shear was involved from the beginning, when PMG paid $80 million for the site in late 2014, and announced plans for the Waldorf brand in 2018.  

PMG also launched its own co-living brand, Society, which developed apartment towers across the country, including in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta. Shear has said that the basic function of building housing is gratifying, and he loves the sticks and bricks of the business. “When picking the level of the finish on the drywall is an exciting concept, you know you’re not faking it. That part of the business is completely enthralling,” he told The Real Deal in 2016.
