T. Dupree Scovell
T. Dupree Scovell is co-managing partner and chief investment officer at Woodbine Development Corporation, and his background drips with other DFW bona fides.
Start with his grandfather, Field Scovell, also known as “Mr. Cotton Bowl” for his role as a driving force of the football game that helped put the region on the map and remains a keystone of its national image. His father, John Scovell, teamed up with another Texas legend, Ray Hunt, on development projects, a practice that has been a constant for decades.
These days Dupree Scovell – he generally goes by his middle name – and brother, King Scovell, oversee a portfolio of interests that includes hotel properties under multiple flags and counts the Hyatt Regency Dallas & Reunion Tower in downtown Dallas as a hallmark.
Scovell distinguished himself academically, with multiple undergrad degrees from Texas Tech and a master’s from Stanford, but also has put in the work of a grinder. His first job in the hospitality business was at age 16, washing dishes at the Hyatt Regency Dallas. He walked onto the football team at Texas Tech, playing under late and storied coach Mike Leach. He did a stint with yet another legendary Texas brand early in career, working for five years at Trammell Crow Company before joining Woodbine in 2011 and moving to Los Angeles to start a West Coast office. He has overseen notable acquisitions for Woodbine, including the W Atlanta‑Buckhead and other hotel and mixed‑use properties.
