Danville could get one of its largest residential developments to date if a local developer gets its way.
Blake Griggs Properties, based in Danville, submitted an application to build a four-story, 200-unit building at 101-119 Town and Country Drive, the San Francisco Business Times reported.
The 350,000-square-foot project is scheduled to move through the approval process, and the town’s chief of planning, David Crompton, predicted the project will be appealed due to its size before it’s voted on by the Town Council.
The developer tapped Senate Bill 330, which streamlines approval processes by locking in the regulations in place at the time of application. The nearly 3.9-acre site houses four commercial buildings of The Village Shopping Center, three of which would be demolished to make room for the housing development.
The proposed development would include 21 affordable units in exchange for a 50 percent increase in density as well as waivers on building height and parking spaces.
The Department of Housing and Community Development previously determined that the project was eligible for the proposed density bonus as Blake Griggs Properties categorized it as a “mixed-use” development due to the remaining commercial building on the site.
It is one of several housing projects in the works in the San Jose area. Trumark and Pacific West Companies secured entitlements in March for a 167-unit housing development, including 124 for-sale townhomes and 43 rentable affordable units on a 7-acre site at 3020 Fostoria Way.
Blake Griggs sold off the 358-unit Waymark apartment complex at 101 Pringle Avenue in September for $190 million, or $530,700 per unit; it developed and completed the property in 2022.
Construction on the Danville development could start as soon as summer 2027 and could take between 26 and 28 months to complete.
