A Los Altos Hills estate is searching for a new owner as wealthy buyers in the booming artificial intelligence sector flood Silicon Valley.
The property at 27500 La Vida Real has hit the market for $37 million, the Silicon Valley Business Journal reported. The estate spans more than 20,000 square feet on a more than 8-acre lot — a notably large footprint even among the bigger lots that are common in Los Altos Hills but rarely trade.
Completed in 2010 after more than six years of planning and construction, the home was designed by its tech-industry owners as both a family compound and an entertainment venue capable of hosting large philanthropic events, according to listing agent Ken DeLeon. The property includes five bedroom suites, expansive courtyards and resort-style outdoor areas tailored for large gatherings.
The centerpiece of the property is an indoor-outdoor pool with a retractable roof. “It feels like a private resort,” DeLeon told the Business Journal. “It’s probably the best pool I’ve ever seen.”
The home’s bones are just as strong as its amenities. “This is a home where the infrastructure behind the walls is just as impressive as what you see,” DeLeon said. The home boasts a large server room and other systems capable of supporting extensive technological needs.
The $37 million price tag is at the upper end of the Los Altos Hills market, though it could be well below replacement cost for a buyer who might want to tear the mansion down and build from scratch. “Construction costs have surged,” DeLeon said. “To rebuild something like this now could exceed the asking price even before factoring in the land.”
The luxury housing market in San Francisco and across the Bay Area has seen a surge in demand as more wealthy buyers compete for a shrinking number of available high-end homes. San Francisco buyers specifically are dealing with a so-called mansion shortage, while those in Silicon Valley looking for homes near giants like Apple, Google, Meta and Nvidia often have slim pickings to choose from in the region’s ritzier suburbs.
