A Mission District condo unit in a former church building sold for just under $6.5 million, four years after first hitting the market.

The 5,500-square-foot unit is in The Lighthouse, a restored building at 651 Dolores Street, directly across from Dolores Park, according to the website Socketsite. The 106-year-old building — which includes four separate condo units — was once home to the Second Church of Christ, Scientist. Renovations were completed in 2016.

The unit that just sold hit the market in 2017 with an asking price of just under $6.8 million, according to the report. That was cut to $6 million a year later, with the option of paying in Bitcoin.

It has been subsequently listed and delisted a number of times over the years, according to Redfin. It was most recently relisted on Sept. 17, for $1,000 under its closing price on Sept. 29.

The unit has three bedrooms and three bathrooms and spans multiple levels. There are marble floors, polished cement floors and a barrel ceiling. Other features include a 30-foot ceiling, exposed brick, steel beams and original woodwork.

Another building owned by the Christian Science church is in the middle of a heated battle over development plans that include a group home. The Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist, teamed up with Forge Development Partners to build a 316-unit group home and new church as well as a reading room in the Tenderloin. The proposal is facing criticism from neighbors who say the area doesn’t need more micro-units and temporary housing.
