One of San Francisco’s Painted Lady homes on Alamo Square has gone into contract at the asking price of $5.75 million.

It went into contract on March 19, according to its Zillow listing. The home, at 722 Steiner Street, is the first in a row of seven historic Victorian-style homes commonly referred to as Postcard Row, SFGate reported earlier.

Built in 1892, the six-bedroom, six-bathroom home at the corner of Steiner and Grove streets is the oldest of the Ladies and was once the home of Matthew Kavanaugh, who built the homes, SFGate reported. At 4,831 square feet, it’s the largest of the seven by at least 1,000 square feet.

The home had another notable resident during its life, Jose Julio Sarria, who became the first openly gay candidate for public office in the U.S. when he ran for the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1961.

The “big sister” of the Painted Ladies was remodeled by the sellers, who bought it for $3.1 million in 2014. The updates include an open kitchen with custom cabinets and stainless steel appliances, spa-inspired bathrooms and a solar array and Tesla battery system.

The home also has a guest unit that can be reached from the inside of the home or through a rear garden entry. It has a kitchenette, open living and dining area and a bedroom and full bathroom. Preserved features include a marble gas-burning fireplace, original glass gaslit chandeliers and restored wainscotting and crown moldings.
