A late ‘80s home with a “Hamptons-inspired” reno in the tony Marin County town of Ross is asking $15 million, more than double the $6.2 million it last sold for in 2015.

A sale near the asking price would be the second-biggest deal in Ross so far this year. A 6,000-square-foot Mid-Century modern—which also features movable glass walls out to the pool area, as well as separate pool and guest houses—closed for $18 million last week. It’s also not unheard of for homes in Ross to go much higher. Last year’s biggest sale was a renovated $28-million Bernard Maybeck-designed home, also listed by McLaughlin, and a $29-million property on 14 acres has been on the market since last fall.

The redo of 80 Laurel Grove Avenue is the work of high-end interior designer Nicole Hollis, whose residential and hospitality designs have been featured in numerous magazines. The firm was named in Architectural Digest’s list of the top 100 architectural or design studios in the world in 2021 and 2022.

Wide-plank oak flooring features prominently on the entertaining floor of the 6,200-square-foot 5-bedroom, 5.5-bath home, which centers around an open concept great room connecting the all-white kitchen, dining area, and lounging spaces to the “resort-like grounds and pool,” according to marketing material from listing agent Tracy McLaughlin of The Agency. A wall of glass doors can be pushed aside to make for seamless indoor-outdoor living.

The outdoor spaces on the two-acre estate are all “recently developed” and include an in-ground pool and spa, outdoor kitchen with built-in grill and smoker, covered dining for 12, a stone-surround outdoor fireplace and two lawns.

A glass-enclosed gym overlooks the grounds on the home’s upper level, which also houses all five of the bedrooms. There’s also a lower-level music room and a home office featuring two guitars on the main floor.

The owners of the Laurel Grove estate are Cameron Breitner, managing partner of private investment fund CVC Capital Partners and head of the British fund’s West Coast branch, and his wife, Elizabeth, a private equity and hedge fund recruiter, according to public records.

Though McLaughlin called the home “Hamptons-inspired” in her listing notes, the allusion to the upscale Long Island beach community seems to predate the current owners. Listing notes from the 2015 sale also refer to an “East Coast, Hamptons style estate.”
