A Chicago developer has filed plans to build a 382-unit apartment complex on both sides of a park-like creek in Palo Alto.

Oxford Capital Group proposes two six-story buildings at 3400 El Camino Real, SFYimby reported.

The mixed-use project would replace a 136-room Creekside Inn, which is redeveloping the 3.6-acre property.

Plans call for two apartment buildings on either side of Matadero Creek, one with 316 units and the other with 66 units. They would contain 44 studios, 243 one-bedroom, 86 two-bedroom and nine three-bedroom apartments.

Of those, 76 units would be set aside as affordable for moderate-income households earning between 80 percent and 120 percent of area median income.

Parking would serve more than 500 cars.

The Residences at Matadero Creek project, designed by San Jose-based Studio S Squared Architecture, would include 390,700 square feet of apartment residences. Project sketches depict a contemporary building with large windows and balconies, and a wavy ledge flowing off the curb.

The larger complex north of the creek would include two walkways leading from its bank with apartments on either side. It would contain 4,000 square feet for a shop or restaurant and underground parking for 400 cars.

The smaller complex south of the creek would be an 66,660-square-foot, L-shaped building with landscaped courtyards along its bank. A surface lot for 100 cars would also serve the nearby shop.

The project at El Camino Real and Matadero Avenue aims to rediscover Matadero Creek and make it a public benefit, with pathways and seating. It would be managed by Explore Real Estate, a local firm.
BKF Engineers, based in Newport Beach, will serve as its civil engineer. Taniguchi Landscape Architecture, based in San Mateo, will design the landscaping.
