Tobani Group alters look of 100 apartments in SF’s Bayview

Project would include 70 affordable units targeted to middle-income professionals

The Toboni Group has updated plans for a seven-story apartment building for middle-income teachers and other professionals in San Francisco’s Bayview.

The developer, based in the city, has filed for new building permits for the mixed-use, 100-unit complex at 5250 3rd Street, SFYimby reported. It bought the property in July 2020 for $3 million.

Plans call for 100 apartments available for local teachers, nurses and other middle-income professions, of which 70 units will be set aside as affordable.

The 70,700-square-foot building will include 17 studios, 37 one-bedroom, 21 two-bedroom and 25 three-bedroom apartments, with parking for 105 bicycles. Nearly 7,600 square feet will be allotted for open space.

The $17.4 million project, designed by Leavitt Architecture of San Francisco, would include various vertical blocks in gray, powder blue and white textures, with vertical windows large and small and stacks of protruding balconies, according to new renderings.

The latest plans for the building include fewer windows on the north side to allow more privacy for a four-story and six-story building next door proposed by US Trading Company at 3rd Street and Thornton Avenue.

A timeline for construction was not disclosed.

Toboni Group specializes in custom single-family homes and multifamily construction, according to its website.
