Path Ventures aims to build 94 affordable apartments in West San Jose, not far from the Westfield Valley Fair mall and Santana Row.

The Los Angeles-based nonprofit developer filed plans to build the mixed-use, seven-story complex at 1921-1929 West San Carlos Street and 30-58 Cleveland Avenue, the San Jose Mercury News reported.

The project at West San Carlos Street and Cleveland Avenue would require bulldozing five single-story commercial buildings, including one housing a piano store and a former tire shop.

The development, known as Path Villas at the Row, would contain different sizes of apartments to accommodate families and individuals earning between 30 percent and 80 percent of area median income, according to Path Ventures.

“The development also provides housing units and support spaces for individuals experiencing homelessness,” the company said in a project proposal.

It said shops would occupy ground level facing West San Carlos Street at Cleveland Avenue to “activate” the development’s corner.

The white-and-peach complex, designed by Steinberg Hart, would rise in what appear to be two joined rectangular buildings that include stepped terraces at one end toward the back, according to renderings. The remaining roof would be covered with solar panels.

Path Ventures, founded in 2007 by PATH,  has nearly 2,500 affordable and supportive homes constructed or in pre-development in 150 cities across the state, according to its website.
