Bidding on the former Oakland Raiders headquarters and training facility kicks off on July 5, with roster of players interested in taking the field.

Registration closed at the end of the day last Friday, and as of last Thursday afternoon 65 bidders had downloaded Alameda County’s bid packet, county and Oakland officials told the San Francisco Business Times. The city and county jointly own the two buildings on a combined 17 acres in Alameda near the Oakland airport that are up for auction.

The former headquarters at 1220 Harbor Bay Pkwy has a 100,607-square-foot two-story 1986 building and a gated rear parking lot with electric vehicle charging stations and a loading dock on 5.45 acres. The former training facility at 1150 Harbor Bay Parkway sits on over 11 acres but has less than 20,000 square feet, as an “expansive field” takes up much of that parcel, according to marketing materials for the sale.

The forms that allow those interested in submitting bids on the two Alameda spaces the ability to submit written and oral bids are included in the registration paperwork, though officials could not say if each of the registrants represented separate entities or how many offers have come in thus far.

The website for the auction indicates a starting bid of $35.8 million and Oakland officials told the SFBT that it appears life sciences developers are interested in either renovating the  buildings or developing a new life science campus from the ground up. The property is zoned for commercial manufacturing and is located near the Harbor Bay Business Park, which has several life sciences tenants. The life sciences sector has been one of the few bright points in the local office market, though demand has started to slow recently. Office and R&D demand in Oakland has been particularly strong this spring.

More information about the bidders and bids will be revealed on Wednesday afternoon, when written offers are due by 4:30 pm. On July 10, a live oral auction will take place, where bidders must come in at least 5% higher than the highest received written bid.
