Snowflake wants to softly land more offices in Silicon Valley.
The data technology firm, which in 2021 nominally moved its principal offices to Bozeman, Montana, but still rents its former hub in San Mateo, is shopping for more space, the San Francisco Business Times reported, citing unidentified sources.
Snowflake leases more than 200,000 square feet at its former headquarters at 450 Concar Drive. The lease expires in nine years.
The company, which moved toward a globally distributed workforce and said it no longer had an official headquarters, wants to expand near its former base.
One source told the Business Times that the Silicon Valley office expansion is four to six months out. The number of needed offices was not disclosed.
The move would be a big deal for landlords in Silicon Valley, among the nation’s top markets for big office deals two years ago, but where big leases have dwindled since.
Many companies that had leaned toward remote work for their employees have dialed back remote-first policies.
Zoom Video Communications, based in San Jose, has called on employees near offices to come in two days a week.
Nine months after pulling out of San Francisco during a shift to remote work, Santa Monica-based Snap, parent of Snapchat, has launched a search for a new office in San Francisco, after canning its remote work policy.
Airbnb, which cut its five-building San Francisco campus down to one building, remains fully remote. But the home-sharing platform is now shopping for 200,000 to 250,000 square feet of new offices in town.
In August of last year, Snowflake expanded its offices in Dublin to 153,000 square feet, from 40,000 square feet.
