Andreessen Horowitz, also known as a16z, one of the world’s biggest venture capital firms, has signed on to almost 35,000 square feet at DivcoWest’s Sand Hill Collection on Sand Hill Road in Menlo Park, according to a release from DivcoWest.

Andreessen Horowitz will occupy two newly constructed two-story buildings beginning in 2026, when it will leave behind its longtime home at the Rosewood Sand Hill Office at 2865 Sand Hill Road. That property was donated to Stanford University by Rosewood developer John Arrillaga, whose daughter is married to a16z founder Marc Andreessen.

The venture firm was represented by Hugh Scott and Derek Johnson of JLL. Christian Prelle, Brad Van Linge, Sarah Bohannon, and Clayton Jones of Newmark represented DivcoWest. The owner would not reveal any further details about the lease terms.

The VC firm $40 billion in assets under management will be relocating to 2400-2450 Sand Hill Road that has been dubbed “The Quad,” a campus DivcoWest bought in 2011. It was designed as a “campus within a campus” with private outdoor spaces that will give a16z “options for al fresco work, meetings, and events,” according to the release. The interiors of the buildings offer options for flexible workspaces.

A16z is currently going through the tenant improvement process.

The Quad has a farm-to-table restaurant called The Kitchen and other Sand Hill Collection amenities include three fitness centers with free personal training and group classes, walking, biking and running trails throughout the 48-acre complex, which also includes an outdoor basketball court, a sun deck for socializing, EV supercharging stations and conference facilities.

DivcoWest owns almost half of the properties on Sand Hill Road, after it spent $610 million on 12 buildings across two campuses at 3000 and 2700-2770 Sand Hill Road just before the pandemic, which it now calls The Ranch and The Grove, respectively.

Two years into the pandemic Andreessen-Horowitz announced that its headquarters would be “in the cloud.” Though it kept its Menlo Park office and is clearly committed to keeping a Sand Hill Road address, it cut way back on office space in San Francisco while also opening offices in LA, New York and Miami. Just last month, it opened its first office in D.C.
