How Kuilei Place Is Expanding Housing Opportunity in Honolulu

First-time homebuyers are getting their turn

Kobayashi Group’s Kuilei Place residential community is helping address Honoluluʻs housing crisis by adding new homes to the geographically limited island market. In our latest Developer Diaries entry, we sit down with the Kobayashi Group team to explore how Kuilei Place is designed for a new generation of Honolulu homeowners by bringing together affordability, thoughtful design and elevated island living.

“We have 600 first-time homebuyers at Kuilei Place,” says Alana Kobayashi Pakkala, CEO of Kobayashi Group. “So we thought that would be a really important engagement point that they had the ability to personalize their home.”

One of the major wins at Kuilei Place was Kobayashi Group’s partnership with BSH, which made it possible to include Bosch appliances in the homes’ kitchens. In addition to their clean, modern design, Bosch appliances meet high energy and water efficiency standards – an especially important consideration in Hawaiʻi, where space and resources are both precious.

“They’re a luxury product,” explains Kobayashi Pakkala. “That’s where partnership came into play. Not only are they committed to energy efficiency, but they’re also committed to water efficiency. That’s an incredibly forward thinking and innovative partner to have.”
