Adi Chugh’s Maverick Commercial Properties Rebrands as Surya Capital Partners Ahead of 10 Year Anniversary
NEW YORK—The time for reflection and change is now. After a tumultuous past eighteen months, many commercial real estate executives, owners, and developers have evaluated their offerings and business priorities. The same is true for Adi Chugh, CEO and Founder of the newly rebranded Surya Capital Partners (Surya CP, pronounced as SUR-yuH). Formerly known as Maverick Commercial Properties, the leading nationwide real estate private equity and debt financing boutique advisory firm is excited for this next stage of growth.
“We are approaching our 10-year anniversary and feel it’s time to evolve our company to reflect the growth and expansion of our business,” Chugh shared.
Surya Capital Partners is renowned for its ability to customize bespoke financing solutions for all property types on behalf of their clients. Delivering a highly targeted approach in a timely manner, their services represent the 60+ collective years of institutional experience among the team. Their ability to quickly evaluate and create financing structures and provide solutions from a very institutional point of view, combined with providing a personalized service in sync with a boutique firm, is one of the main keys to success for the firm.
While initially starting as an advisory firm in New York, Surya CP advises on financing transactions from stable cash flow deals to complex and heavily structured transactions such as ground lease, note acquisition, high leverage acquisition, conversion, and construction financing.
Surya Capital Partners has diversified into principal investments and created a joint venture with A-Rod Corp and is also a partner in a $650 million dollar hospitality fund with CGI Merchant Group. In addition, Surya CP also makes co-General Partner investments and creates strategic partnerships with developers, owners and operators nationwide.
For Chugh, strong family ties both professionally and personally inspired the new company name. Surya, whose meaning is defined as “sun” in Sanskrit, is an ode to Chugh’s grandparents whose names respectively meant sun and sun rays. Chugh also selected this as the middle name for his only son. Through this rebrand, Chugh is able to dedicate his hard work to his grandparents and son, for being the light in his life, while sharing this light with his team, clients, and business partners founded on his belief that no matter what, the sun always rises.
The firm’s expanded landscape nationally focuses on New York, Florida, California and Texas, and has consummated deal in over 32 other states across the country with continued growth on the horizon. While the firm continues to expand, New York will always be a special place for Chugh as his business was founded in his first apartment here. “Either you’re a believer or you’re not. We’re long-term believers here. The city hasn’t forgotten how to rise, and it will again — we’ve already seen it. The rents are back with a boom. The pandemic, and both government and market responses, have shortened the lifecycle of the typical recession— what once may have taken years to recover from, is now showing signs of a significantly accelerated rebound than previously expected.”
Reflecting on how the firm has grown to establish its credibility and deep loyalty among its clientele, Chugh offered, “It’s a long game. We invested time and energy and effort in our clients to build a relationship with them for a lifetime and that has now continued to pay dividends. We have clients still with us that have been there since day one and we have grown with them. Clients come to us versus other firms because they don’t view us as mortgage brokers. They view us as true investment bankers and a true extension of their financing office.”
With a roster of clients such as Cerberus Capital Management, Silverpeak, Centerbridge, Innovo Property Group, Harridge Development and CBSK Ironstate among others, Chugh emphasizes their team values and integrity as difference makers to clients.
“We run the entire process. Any pitfalls that happen throughout the process, our clients know that we are reliable and trustworthy. We are with them throughout the entire process. Our clients are our family.”
