Andrew Cuomo Q&A

What is Andrew Cuomo known for?
Prior to serving as Governor of New York, Cuomo was the 64th Attorney General of New York under Governor Eliot Spitzer. He was the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under President Bill Clinton, where he aggressively pushed homeownership through cheaper mortgages, an approach that some say helped precipitate the housing-market collapse the following decade.
Why is Andrew Cuomo important to the real estate industry?
Cuomo's roles at HUD in the late 1990s and early 2000s first made him a significant figure in the real estate industry. As Governor, Cuomo has pushed a wide-ranging economic development agenda, especially in upstate New York, which affects the industry across the state. His office makes him one of the two heads, along with the governor of New Jersey, of the Port Authority. In that capacity, Cuomo has broad say on issues affecting New York Harbor, its airports, and several transit arteries.
