Arizona’s Meritage Homes aims to build hundreds of homes in rural Denton and Fort Worth, pre-developed communities known as “primary shadow markets” that are increasingly popular as developers and investors seek to cash in on the Texas housing boom.

Meritage plans to construct 132 three- to five-bedrooms in what will be the Kings Ridge community in Denton, according to the Dallas Morning News. Prices will start at about $360,000 for the one- and two-story houses ranging from 1,659 to 3,100 square feet.

Kings Ridge is north of North Lakes Park and the Rayzor Ranch shopping center, just under Route 288 and on the outskirts of the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area.

The second community, to be known as Palmilla Springs, will have 93 units in the far west of the city off Route 30, an area newly dubbed as Aledo. The three- to five-bedroom homes will start at about $290,000 and range from 1,226 to 3,050 square feet.

Palmilla is next to Chapin Village, a similar planned community built by Dallas-based History Maker Homes. It’s across the highway from Lost Creek Estate, an upscale development that has an 18-hole golf course.
