San Antonio’s hotel bookings and revenue topped Houston, Dallas, and Austin in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The city’s hotel sector generated more than $335.3 million in revenue–almost $20 million more than its hotels reported in 2019, according to San Antonio Business Journal’s analysis of data from Source Strategies.

“Recovery in 2021 progressed more quickly than many analysts predicted, especially in Texas,” Source Strategies President Todd Walker said.
Despite record growth in housing and commercial real estate, the Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston markets all saw a decline in room nights sold in the fourth quarter of 2021. Source Strategies singled out Dallas as the most challenged in this market with only one new hotel built since the outbreak of Covid-19.
“The fourth quarter is typically the slowest in the San Antonio market, but metro hotels saw demand up 2.1% over 4Q 2019,” Source Strategies Senior Vice President Paul Vaughn said. However, he worries that downtown San Antonio will still experience a sluggish recovery due to its dependence on group and convention business.
