Sprawling ‘megatech center’ joining Samsung near Austin

The $17 billion semiconductor factory that Samsung is bringing to Taylor, Texas, has now drawn dozens of satellite developments into its orbit.

One of the largest is a 450-acre industrial park planned for a megasite in Hutto, a town of 28,000 about 29 miles northeast of Austin and 8 miles from Taylor.

Titan Development announced Wednesday that it has purchased 188 acres called the “Hutto Mega TechCenter” adjacent to the larger megasite. The land has been earmarked for industrial development and is zoned for “light industrial” use. Plans for the Hutto Mega TechCenter near Texas Highway 130 include up to six buildings ranging from 200,000 to more than 1,000,000 square feet.

Titan has offices in New Mexico and Texas and focuses on the Southwest U.S. It completed Hutto’s Innovation Business Park in 2020. The company plans to develop the Hutto MegaTech Center for uses similar to those of the Innovation Business Park, which recently signed leases with Canadian water-treatment innovator Ovivo and California machine tool manufacturer Kval.

The area northeast of Austin has been a magnet for large capital investments in recent years. In addition to Samsung, Silicon Valley’s Applied Materials has looked at the area for a $2 billion project.

In February, two unidentified tech companies scouted the city’s megasite for a possible $3 billion development. Industry experts have said Central Texas is on the way to becoming one of the world’s most important semiconductor hubs.
