Integrated Defense Products is relocating its headquarters from Oxnard, CA, to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, citing the Lone Star State’s business-friendly politics.

IDP, a family-owned machine shop that specializes in manufacturing parts for the defense, firearm, aerospace, and medical industries, has announced its new base of operations in Rockwall Technology Park. The company plans to develop a 21,000-square-foot facility on a 2.51-acre parcel, right off State Highway 276, according to the Dallas Business Journal. A groundbreaking was held on September 14 with construction slated to be completed in Spring of 2023.

“Texas is politically, by nature, an extremely business-friendly state,” said firm president Brandon Buschold, adding that the state offers “reasonable cost of living, and a lower overall tax burden.”

The state’s reputation of low taxes and business-friendly policies has attracted a number of big manufacturers such as Texas Instruments’ nearly $30 billion semiconductor plant planned for Sherman, one of Rockwall’s neighboring DFW submarkets.

Sitting right on Lake Ray Hubbard, Rockwall is one of the eastmost submarkets in the DFW metroplex along I-30. The U.S. Census Bureau estimated Rockwall’s 2019 population to be 45,888. In addition to a commitment of adding at least $7 million in new taxable value, IDP has signaled it wants to work closely with the Rockwall community.

“We have already had conversations with Brandon and other members of the Buschold family about partnering with local schools on career and technical education and using their expertise to promote the trades,” said Rockwall EDC president Phil Wagner.
