The Dallas Central Appraisal District’s website has reportedly been down for more than a week following a ransomware attack.

The hack was first reported Nov. 8, when the appraisal district’s computer system, servers, email and website were all shut down.

As of Monday morning, DCAD’s online services remain down, according to the Dallas Business Journal, which also reports that the agency says it’s working with IT security and federal authorities to resolve the situation.

“Early Tuesday morning, 11-8-2022, The Dallas Central Appraisal District (DCAD) became the victim of a ransomware attack,” the DCAD posted to its Facebook page last week. “As a result, the DCAD computer system, servers, email and website are down. DCAD is working with the IT security vendor and the authorities to resolve and remedy this issue. We do not currently have a definite timeframe but expect it may take several days to rectify the system. We have followed the advice of authorities and have not contacted the perpetrator(s).”

Spokeswoman Cheryl Jordan told D Magazine last week that the appraisal district doesn’t know who executed the attack or whether it was foreign or domestic. Jordan told the Dallas Morning News on Friday that there were no updates on the status of the attack.
“We are working around the clock,” she said.

The office has no timeline, as of Monday, on when the situation will be resolved, but Jordan expected it to last through the weekend, she told the DBJ. The appraisal district also said people can use the State Comptroller’s Property Tax Transparency website to see ownership and values.
