Dallas County plans $32M government center in Mesquite

The building will house a tax department and a Justice of the Peace

Dallas County officials are looking to the Dallas suburb of Mesquite to build a $32 million government center by 2024.

Beginning construction early next year, the two-story, 53,550-square-foot facility will be located at 500 South Galloway Avenue, with estimated costs of about $598 per square foot.

The Dallas County government will directly fund construction of the project. It will house a tax department, Justice of the Peace, community room and supporting office spaces, with a secured parking lot.

This is not Dallas County’s only government center, as there are several situated throughout the city in suburbs like Garland and Grand Prairie.

Mesquite is partially in Dallas County and Kaufman County.

There is currently only a small office space for Dallas County’s second precinct in Mesquite. This project will serve to expand the county government’s presence in Mesquite, which currently has an estimated population of a little over 152,000.

Dallas County Commissioners also recently made plans to invest in Dallas’ affordable housing availability.

Federal COVID-19 dollars were put towards the purchase of land that could help bring more than 1,300 affordable housing units to the county. Up to 2,000 apartments could be added to the county’s housing supply by 2026.
