New Hope Housing is set to begin construction on dual affordable senior living complexes in the heart of downtown Houston.
The projects at 2675 and 2604 Gray Street, named North New Hope Housing Gray and South New Hope Housing Gray, are situated on the outskirts of the Third Ward near the Gulf fcFreeway and just a short drive from Minute Maid Park.
The North New Hope Housing Gray project is estimated to cost $7.2 million and comprise 33 units designated for seniors, about $218,000 per unit.
The 42,000-square-foot, three-story apartment complex will include a learning center for neighborhood children, focusing on early childhood development.
The South New Hope Housing Gray project is expected to cost nearly $21 million for 102 apartments, or about $206,000 per unit.
The four-story complex will span 112,831 square feet. Construction at the two developments will begin in mid-July 2023.
Public and private funds will build the developments, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Houston-based architecture firm GSMA Architects will lead the design.
GSMA spearheaded five of New Hope Housing’s previous community projects: Dale-Carnegie, Reed, Rittenhouse, Harrisburg and Brays Crossing.
New Hope Housing has been in operation since 1993 as an offshoot of the Christ Church Cathedral, the cathedral for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas. The organization has become a major provider of affordable housing in the Greater Houston area, developing a wide range of housing options including single-room occupancy units, apartments and senior living facilities, with an emphasis on energy efficiency and sustainability.
New Hope Housing will broaden its reach in the Inner Loop with the completion of these two developments in Third Ward, complementing its existing properties in the Second Ward, Midtown and the Heights. The organization is expected to complete the two Gray Street senior living projects by December 2024.
