While the San Antonio Spurs have been on the outside looking in of this year’s NBA playoffs, head coach Gregg Popovich has been adding to his real estate portfolio.
The five-time champion paid an undisclosed amount for a 15,000-square-foot two-story penthouse in the city’s Southtown district, the San Antonio Express-News reported. The outlet didn’t report the address or the name of the seller.
Listing agent Michael Reisor of Douglas Elliman represented the seller in the deal, and Katie Tottenham of Kuper Sotheby’s represented Popovich.
The combined units on the fifth and six floors were listed for $7.25 million in 2021. The fifth-floor unit has an assessed value of $1.91 million, while the one on the sixth level is worth $1.85 million, the outlet said. Popovich previously bought the fourth-floor unit in 2015 from singer-songwriter Emily Strayer of the Chicks, meaning he now owns the building’s top three stories.
The space comprises six bedrooms, seven full bathrooms, three half bathrooms and a private elevator. Outside, there’s a 7,500-square-foot deck with a private jetted swim spa.
“The penthouse is really like nothing else that has ever been offered,” Reisor told the outlet. “The seller was a collector and a gallerist and took wonderful care of the property and is moving on to his next chapter.”
Popovich’s agent, Tottenham, also represented Spurs player Doug McDermott in 2021 when he purchased a 4,100-square-foot estate in Terrell Hills. That property, which formerly belonged to President Lyndon B. Johnson’s grandson, was listed for about $1.89 million
Other high-end condos in San Antonio listed on Sotheby’s website include a 9,200-square-foot space at 4001 North New Braunfels Avenue, which carries a price tag of $6.9 million, and a 2,800-square-foot unit at 123 Lexington Avenue, listed at $2.4 million.
