Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland are headlining in Houston, not for a Destiny’s Child reunion tour, but for helping to bring housing to their home city of Houston.

The megastars are attached to Harris County’s plan to create 31 permanent supportive housing units in Midtown, using $7.2 million in American Rescue Plan funds to help finance the Knowles-Rowland House project at the Bread of Life gymnasium at 2019 Crawford Street, the Houston Chronicle reported. 

The Knowles-Rowland House will also offer transportation services and resources to support mental, physical and behavioral health. Construction is expected to begin in October and will cost roughly $8.4 million, with the additional funds coming from outside groups, including Rice University, County Commissioner Rodney Ellis told the outlet.

The project extends the city’s fight against homelessness, which it’s done successfully since the pandemic hit.

A survey conducted in May by the Coalition for the Homeless showed that Houston’s homeless population had declined by an estimated 17 percent since 2022.

An “even bigger launch” of the development is expected to be announced in September, when Beyoncé is in Houston on her Renaissance World Tour. She’ll be performing at NRG Stadium on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24.

Beyoncé and Rowland have been supporting housing in Houston for decades now. They used money from their 1998 hit “No, No, No,” to build a youth center in the city.
