A Japanese retailer is opening a distribution center south of Dallas.
Daiso will work with logistics firm Flexe and transportation and warehousing company JT Logistics to launch the project in DeSoto, the Dallas Morning News reported. It’ll be Daiso’s second distribution center in the United States.
The firm, led by president Seiji Yano, aims to expand its presence in the Lone Star State. Daiso targeted DeSoto, which is about 25 minutes south of Dallas, due to its highway connections and proximity to future stores, according to Lance Twitty, Daiso’s chief merchandising and supply chain officer.
“We have a lot of plans over the next several years to continue to open up more stores in Texas,” Twitty told the outlet.
Twitty didn’t specify how many stores Daiso plans to open in Texas, but the DeSoto facility will operate as the company’s only distribution center in Texas.
The new center will also allow Diaso to expand its presence online, saying it will serve the company’s “physical brick-and-mortar strategy” and that it “has the flexibility and capability to support e-commerce when we choose to expand upon that.”
Daiso now has stores in Irving, Euless, Grapevine, Plano, Arlington, Frisco and Fort Worth. The company will open a Dallas store in September, as it recently leased a 5,000-square-foot space on the Abrams side of Tom Thumb, the outlet said.
