A historic ranch in the Texas Panhandle is up for grabs with an eye-popping price tag.
The 80,000-acre Turkey Track Ranch, located along the Canadian River near the town of Borger, has been listed for $180 million, the Dallas Morning News reported. Icon Global Group is marketing the property. The price comes to $2,250 per acre.
The ranch, established in the 1870s, has been owned by the Coble and Whittenburg families for the past century. The asking price includes “a 25 percent ownership stake within a near 100 percent mineral ownership holding,” Icon Global’s Bernard Uechtritz told the outlet.
Potential uses of the ranch include co-ownership models, conservation initiatives and opportunities for natural resources and carbon capture.
The ownership has received inquiries from conservation groups, expressing interest in the reintroduction of buffalo to the area. The owners are considering potential buyers, including legacy ranching firms.
“The collective decision to sell, naturally, contains mixed emotions,” said Kim McTee, a Coble family descendant and one of five managers of the ownership trust.
The ranch, in Hansford and Hutchinson counties, features an original homestead house, livestock pens, a ranch operator’s residence, and a bunkhouse. It was one of the first large cattle ranches in the Texas Panhandle.
Turkey Track Ranch was the site of the Adobe Walls battles, in the 1860s and 1870s, between U.S. soldiers and Native Americans. The battle site, covering 6 acres, is preserved and contains two monuments.
Icon Global is marketing several other large Texas ranches, including the South Creek Ranch near Ferris and the 5R Ranch on the Red River north of Dallas.
The firm represented NFL legend Terry Bradshaw in the sale of his 800-acre ranch near the Oklahoma border. Although the sale price wasn’t disclosed, the property was last listed for $22.5 million.
