A Dallas oilman’s real estate investment firm recently picked up a parcel in Grayson County.
Midas Global Investments sold 375 acres to Texas Republic Management last month, the Dallas Business Journal reported. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed. Caleb Lavey and Rex Glendenning of Rex Real Estate represented both parties in the transaction.
The site is northwest of Gunter, positioned along the planned Dallas North Tollway extension, making it an attractive location for future growth.
The parcel was part of a 1,215-acre tract known as Double Platinum Ranch that Midas bought from Walton Global in 2022. Previous plans indicated 7,000 homes could be built, catering to the growing population of Grayson County, which has risen by more than 8 percent, to 147,000, since 2020.
Texas Republic Management plans to hold the property for three to five years; it is zoned for mixed-use. The firm, founded by Ben Weber Jr., has been steadily expanding its portfolio across Collin, Denton and Grayson counties.
With more than 1,000 acres under contract for development, the firm is positioned to make a mark on the future of the region.
Infrastructure projects like the Dallas North Tollway extension and the Collin County Outer Loop further amplify the area’s appeal. The two initiatives are bridging the gap between rural and urban areas, making northern cities more accessible.

Major developments in the region include Celina’s 7,000-home Legacy Hills project, Lake Texoma’s Margaritaville resort, and the Silicon Prairie region between McKinney and Sherman. Those were key drivers in the firm’s decision to expand its holdings, Texas Republic Management’s Rene Elgersma said.
