Texas’ top construction permits for the week ending April 27, 2026

New Buildings

The most expensive new construction project registered in Texas last week is a data center. Edged, a New York-based data center developer that specializes in waterless facilities, filed plans to spend $177.8 million on a two-story, 257,874-square-foot data center at 501 North Wildwood Drive in Irving, a northern suburb of Dallas. Construction is expected to start this July and end in March 2028.

The second-costliest commercial project of the week is a luxury hotel for Firefly Park, a mixed-use district by Fort Worth-based Wilks Development that began vertical construction this year after 10 years of preparation. The five-story, 170-key Hotel Voeux, a boutique independent brand owned by the Wilks family office, will span 140,851 square feet and cost an estimated $50 million to build. Wilks plans to start construction this July and finish the project by May 2028.

A new inpatient rehabilitation facility ranks third. Birmingham, Alabama-based Encompass Health filed plans to spend $40.8 million on a single-story, 50-patient, 52,000-square-foot facility in Haslet, a town 15 miles north of Fort Worth. Construction is scheduled to begin this August and end in September 2027.

Renovations

The most expensive alteration project filed in Texas last week was also a data center job. Dallas-based data center developer DataBank is spending $155 million to fit out DFW12, one of eight facilities planned for a 300-acre site on Stainback Road in Red Oak, a town in Ellis County south of Dallas on I-35. Work on the 221,434-square-foot building commences this May and ends in October 2027.

In second place, Richardson, Texas-based Digital Realty filed plans to build out and equip one data center suite in DFW 39, a facility in progress at 805 Holford Road in Garland, a suburb about 20 miles northeast of Dallas. The job will cost an estimated $74.6 million, and work is expected to last from July 2026 to July 2027.

In third, Capital One plans to renovate 2,500 square feet of office space on the second floor of the building at 8000 Dominion Parkway in Plano with a cosmetic overhaul and new electrical work. The filing estimates that construction will start in May, end by December and cost $10.5 million.
