Texas’ top construction permits for the week ending July 14, 2026

New Construction

Fort Worth’s public hospital John Peter Smith Hospital filed the state’s biggest construction project of the week to build a $300 million central utility plant at 1575 South Main Street on Fort Worth’s South Side. Construction on the 113,000-square-foot facility started at the end of June and is expected to wrap up in May 2028.

Houston Independent School District filed plans to build a 216,000-square-foot career and technical center at 9220 Jutland Road in Houston. Construction on the project, which will feature classrooms, labs, a multipurpose center, kitchen and administration spaces, is expected to start in March 2027 and finish by the end of September 2028.

Amazon is building a new distribution center in Terrell, a suburb of Dallas. The $98 million project at 3201 Airport Road will span 1.2 million square feet. Construction is expected to last a year from the beginning of August.

Renovations

The city of Dallas has plans to do $20 million worth of work at the Dallas Museum of Art. The bond project involves upgrading the building’s mechanical and fire suppression systems. It will cover 20,000 square feet of the building at 1717 North Harwood Street. The work started at the beginning of the year and is expected to wrap up by the end of 2028.

Austin-based Schlosser Development is teeing up a $14 million tenant improvement project for Mission 42 Ventures, a technology firm. The project covers 26,000 square feet across the 10th and 11th floors of Shoal Creek Walk, a 15-story office building at 835 West 6th Street in Downtown Austin. Schlosser plans to start construction at the end of August and finish the project by December.

An industrial facility owned by sterilization company SteriTek in the North Texas town of Lewisville is getting an e-beam sterilization machine expected to cost $10 million. Work covers 12,000 square feet of the facility at 1206 North Stemmons Freeway. Construction is expected to span from August to the end of March 2027.
