Elon Musk will soon have another place to peddle his wares in Texas’ capital city. A new Tesla showroom is in the works in northeast Austin.

The new dealership will be in a renovated one-story building at 2323 Ridgepoint Drive. It’s owned by Chicago’s Boyd Watterson Asset Management, which plans to sink an estimated $1.5 million into a site build-out for the 52,000-square-foot showroom, according to Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation records.

The estimated cost of the renovation works out to about $29 per square foot. Construction will begin in September and should be completed at the end of February 2023. Chipman Design Architecture, headquartered in Illinois, will be the designer.

The Tesla sales, service, and delivery outlet will be its fourth in Austin. Existing showrooms in the city are at 11600 Century Oaks Terrace, 500 East St. Elmo Road, and 12845 Research Boulevard.

Tesla announced two years ago that it would open its $1.1 billion Giga Texas factory on 2,100 acres in Austin after receiving heaping helpings of tax breaks from the local school district and Travis County. The move was touted as one of the biggest economic development projects in Austin’s history.

The company announced in 2021 that it would be moving its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Austin.
