Journeyman Group shows no signs of slowing its multifamily barrage in North Austin with two more complexes set to add over 600 units to the market.

The Austin-based development firm, through its multifamily branch JCI Residential, plans to build 325 units across three buildings at 2700 East Howard Lane, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing. Another 306 units are planned just 2 miles down the road at 1421 East Howard Lane in a separate development.

Development plans for the Cantarra and Parmer North apartments are still in the early stages, a company representative told The Real Deal. Construction cost estimates were not released. The filings show that construction is set to begin on both projects this summer and be completed in late 2024.
Specific amenities or unit types have not been announced for the projects but other Journeyman Group developments tend to be Class-A, high-end style apartments.

The two sites are about 16 miles from the new Tesla Giga Factory and five miles from the Samsung plant.

The firm is working on another multifamily development called Avery Lakeline near Lakeline Mall in North Austin, on a 97-acre tract of land it purchased in 2019. The first 336 apartments will begin construction in March and be completed in Fall 2024, according to a TDLR filing.

The firm has developed over 200 projects for over $2 billion, according to its website. Journeyman Group focuses on multifamily projects, hotels and senior living facilities, with the majority of its work based in the Austin metro.

A number of new tech companies, such as Amazon and Apple, have secured office space in North Austin recently, leading to a boom of growth and development opportunities. While rising interest rates and worries over workers returning to the office have scared off some developers, Journeyman Group and others are clearly still bullish on the market.
