A lakefront compound in Austin hit the market with a massive price tag.
The 6-acre Lake Austin estate is asking $50 million, the Wall Street Journal reported. Bridget Ramey of Kuper Sotheby’s International Realty has the listing.
The owner is luxury home developer Brett Ames of Ames Design Build and his wife, musician Carolann Ames. The main house spans 7,000 square feet, and there are three guest houses. In total, there are nine bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, over 10,000 square feet of interior space and a private boat dock with two slips, according to the listing.
The couple acquired the land in 2014. The cost to build the estate is unknown, but Brett Ames previously said it was about $1,250 per square foot, which would amount to over $13 million. Construction was completed in March 2020.
The main house features a fitness center, a dry sauna, a media and game room and a music room. The property consists of three parcels, one of which has permits in place to build a 9,000-square-foot house, Brett Ames told the outlet. He originally thought about building a spec house, but he deemed the estate more appealing with undeveloped land.
Super high-end homes in Austin typically max out at around $30 million, Ramey told the outlet. But the city’s ultra-luxury market is on the upswing as new residents flock to the area, especially from states like California and New York.
Last year, five homes listed at $10 million or higher sold in Austin, according to a report from Compass. Homes selling beyond the $10 million threshold was nearly unheard of in the city before 2021.
