Another competitor entered the race for luxury car condos in Austin.
Garages of the Americas, developed by racer Tim Myers, sold its first units, according to public records. The development is across the street from the Circuit of the Americas, one of the few Formula 1 racetracks in the country.
The 18-acre project will include 200 units, about 100 of which have been sold, according to listing agent Mason Bleasdell. Each climate-controlled unit features a mezzanine design with a second story 14 feet above the ground floor to accommodate trailer parking and car lifts. It’s a dimension that the company claims is not available anywhere else in the country. Several buyers are buying multiple units in rows, according to Bleasdell.
Community amenities will include a staff of detailers, trackside servicers and a professional racing coach, two-time Trans Am Champion Cameron Lawrence. A gun range and pickleball court are also under consideration.
Garages of the Americas isn’t the first car condo project to test the market in Austin. T11, developed by the Circuit of the Americas company itself, is in the complex on the 11th turn of the track. Another car condo project is underway in Lakeway, farther west in Austin luxury residential territory.
Aside from a few doctors and dentists, notable buyers include celebrity mechanic and stunt driver Jesse James of West Coast Choppers, according to Myers.
The luxury garage concept first gained momentum in Florida, home to the Porsche Design Tower’s Dezervator. Upcoming garage condo projects in South Florida include a yet-unnamed development in Pembroke Pines and a mixed-use car condo building in Miami named Revault Miami. The city of Austin recently accepted a 21-acre land transfer near the Circuit of the Americas, unlocking state tax incentives that will support a 1,000-room resort-style hotel and convention center to be developed by Houston-based RIDA Development. The Circuit of the Americas is also constructing Cotaland, a motorsports-themed amusement park.
