Beverly Hills broker and “Million Dollar Listing” star Tracy Tutor is bringing her brand to Texas.
The Douglas Elliman agent, who was the first female broker on Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles, has been in the luxury real estate business for 23 years and had more than $300 million in sales last year, according to her website.
Tutor will partner with Elliman Texas agent Breah Brown, who will lead the team’s expansion into the Lone Star State. Brown, a Dallas native who has worked in its luxury residential market for several years, joined Douglas Elliman in 2021. She’s also a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, a gig that she says helped her hone her communication skills and satisfied her competitive nature.
Tutor has been planning to expand her California team into Texas for about a year, she told The Real Deal in a Tuesday phone interview joined by Brown. The California “exodus to Texas” started not long after the COVID pandemic started, Tutor said. Friends and clients alike were moving their businesses and families to Texas for the oft-cited reasons of the pandemic, taxes, wanting more space, or just wanting to get out of California.
Tutor estimates that she saw about $40 million in Dallas real estate sales just among her professional and personal connections that year. “So much of my network was moving there,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Texas residential market boomed. The Dallas market saw a 30-35 percent year-over-year increase in 2021, Brown said.
Elliman expanded to Houston, its first Texas location, in 2019. In 2021, a cowboy-hat-wearing Fredrik Eklund, another high-profile Douglas Elliman broker and Million Dollar Listing star, announced Elliman’s entrance into Dallas.
Tutor approached Texas markets a little differently, connecting with Brown early in the process to better get to know its particulars and its players — who generally operate in a completely opposite manner from their splashier coastal counterparts. She also tapped into her own network of professional and personal contacts from California, many of whom had joined the recent migration to Texas.
Tutor credits Brown, who will head her Texas team, with “teaching me about the intricacies of the market in Dallas, how it really works, and how very different it is from California.” Long-term plans expand the team to Austin and Houston are in the works.
