Green Acres Nursery buys 10 acres in Melissa

Those passing through the North Texas town of Melissa, will eventually be able to get garden supplies along with their beaver nuggets. 

Green Acres Nursery & Supply acquired nearly 10 acres along U.S. Highway 75, next to a Buc-ee’s location, according to a news release. Stream Realty Partners helped arrange the sale. 

The California-based garden supply company bought the parcel at 1922 Central Expressway for an undisclosed amount. Stream’s Demian Salmon and Chap Bernet represented the seller, Flamingo Daze LP, which is linked to former Texas Instruments CEO Tom Engibous, according to public records.

David Sacher of SHOP Companies represented the buyer.

The Green Acres in Melissa, a fast-growing town about an hour north of Dallas, will mark the company’s second location in Texas. It opened a store in Irving, also near Dallas, in March. 

The Melissa property is currently zoned for commercial development. The site is also adjacent to Willow Grove, a residential community with 650 multifamily units and 270 single-family homesites. 

Cities north of McKinney, like Melissa and Anne, have seen rapid growth in recent years, attracting a slew of residential and commercial developers who have set their sights on the area along the U.S. 75 corridor, Salmon said. He added that Melissa’s population is growing at a rate of just over 18 percent per year.

While Green Acres’ exact plans for the site haven’t been revealed, its store in Irving could provide a clue. That location spans 120,000 square feet, including a 6,300-square-foot greenhouse, 13,000-square-foot annuals and perennials greenhouse and a 30,000-square-foot store with everything from patio furniture and grills to irrigation supplies and plant foods. 

Green Acres, led by CEO Steve Gill, has also purchased sites in Southlake and Frisco, the Dallas Morning News previously reported.
