Paul Romanowski named CEO of D.R. Horton 

A new leader will be at the helm of D.R. Horton, the nation’s largest homebuilder. 

D.R. Horton co-COO Paul Romanowski will become president and CEO of the Arlington-based firm, succeeding David Auld, who’s served as CEO for the past nine years, the Dallas Morning News reported. Michael Murray will maintain his role of COO. 

Auld will step down Oct. 1 and serve as executive vice chair of the company’s board, while Romanowski takes over as leader the same day. The reason for Auld’s resignation wasn’t revealed. 

“I am humbled and privileged to have helped lead the largest homebuilding company in the United States, and I look forward to continuing to work with the D.R. Horton executive team and board of directors in my new role as executive vice chair,” Auld told the outlet. 

Romanowski has been co-COO since October 2021. Before that, he served as regional president for seven years and South Florida division president for 14 years. His 20 years of management experience led to his promotion, company founder Donald Horton told the outlet. 

D.R. Horton made $33.4 billion in revenue last year, profiting $6 billion. In 2022, the firm earned the No. 1 spot in the Builder 100 list, based on its almost 82,000 closings in 2021. As of June 30, D.R. Horton had closed 83,201 homes over the previous 12 months.

In Texas, some of the firm’s notable projects include a 1,000-acre master-planned community just south of Austin and a 220-home development in San Antonio.
